New and hot due diligence tool in Data Lookup

Business relations are difficult to establish, especially international ones. Sanctions are one of the stumbling blocks that can complicate dealing with a company or a person, make it impossible or even illegal. If you don’t want your time and efforts to go down the drain, you should always exercise due diligence and check who you want to be dealing with.

We have just introduced a new source that helps you to quickly find sanctioned entities. A query retrieves the results from OpenSanctions database by person name or company name. You might ask: how does it work? We say: just run Data lookup, select Sanctions and input your query!

Search results might look quite complicated, because one input can return multiple results. So make sure you provide your input as accurately as possible to narrow down your search results.

Below is an example of data returned when searching “Investments Limited”. We used it on purpose to show you that there are hundreds of company names containing these words. Depending on the data that OpenSanctions has on file, here’s what you can see right away:

• Entity type (parameter: opensanction_object_type): e.g. company, person
• Entity name (other_name)
• Country(country)
• Creation date (created)
• Link to entity card on OpenSanctions (opensanction_object_url)
• Link to source describing imposed sanctions (source_url)
• and much more!

If you are looking for certain description of imposed sanctions and there’s no URL of source document (i.e. source_url), you can click on the OpenSanctions link and see these details there.

As already mentioned, this search can be used to look up data on sanctioned persons, not only businesses. Same rule as mentioned above works here — if you need data on a specific person, enter the name as precisely as you can so that the output becomes more specific:
