We are actively developing our online Data Lookup tool, as more and more users tend to fulfill their OSINT tasks using quick and simple tools that can be accessed from both PC and mobile devices. One of such users is Németh Zaránd, and today we are telling you a story about one day from his life. Before we start, a little disclaimer: our characters are fictitious and any resemblance is purely coincidental.

Németh owns a small startup company. As his business grows, he is looking forward to expanding their staff. So, today in the morning, after a small breakfast, Németh decides to open his Inbox and check if there are any new resumes. Good news: there is a new email with a resume attached: after Németh went through it, he decides to do a little screening to find out more about the sender. He logs into his account at lampyre.io and gets to Data Lookup page:

Here he inputs sender’s email address and waits a couple of minutes until the results are gathered. In a few moments Németh sees candidate’s photos and avatars from various services at the top — quite useful, given that most resumes come without a photograph:

Below he finds lots of information on registered services, usernames, location data and other information related to each source. Everything is grouped by source to quickly navigate between them by choosing from the list on the left:

Based on this, now Németh knows much more information on a candidate, beyond his resume, and decided to reach out to him to schedule an interview.

In the afternoon Németh goes on a networking event, where he meets several representatives from other companies. Of course, as his business is expanding, he wants to benefit from establishing new relations. But before that, he decides to carry out a little due diligence exercise and learn more about these people. However, all Németh has is their business cards. As we know, a business card usually has an email address and a phone number. However, looking up OSINT data with a corporate email address is not efficient as these types of emails are usually used for business correspondence only. Therefore, he decides to look up data by phone number instead. He uses Data Lookup, and it returns quite a lot of results that can help to know more about the non-business side of a person:

Let’s take a brief digression from our story: since we are talking about businesses, it is worth noting that business cards also may have company names, and you can look up more data on a company using Lampyre desktop app. And, of course, feel free to read our articles about OSINT research on companies (like this one).

Németh goes through several phone numbers and decides to dig a bit further: he takes a domain where a corporate email address is registered, or — even simpler — a corporate website from a business card, and puts it into Data Lookup:

A search by domain gives lots of useful outputs, even an owner’s name and a list of email addresses registered using this domain. Wow, some of the company’s employees are a little exposed here — not a good sign! Németh also sees a domain’s IP address, and checks it with Data Lookup. And here is what he gets:

As we see in the screenshot above, GeoIP returned the location information related to this address. It is a bit suspicious that a European company’s website is hosted in India. But here’s also a bit more data from other sources:

AbuseIPDB database search shows that an IP is blacklisted, so the trustworthiness of this business causes certain doubts. Good to know this beforehand!

When the working day came to an end, Németh decides to play his favorite MMORPG for a while. He is a member of a playing team, and he does not know each team member in person, even though they chat a lot during the game. Suddenly, one of team members offers him to buy some rare items for cash. Even though these armors and weapons will give him a serious advantage, Németh is very cautious and decides to know more about the seller. As you may have guessed, he uses Data Lookup again, because it can find lots of information with just a username:

Németh scrolls down the results from Namechecker and clicks on several links. Based on the information he finds about the player, he thinks that he is very suspicious, and decides not to proceed with such a tempting deal. He doesn’t want to feel disappointed and to cheer himself up, he opens a dating app to find a partner who will be up for a dinner tonight. After a few swipes, he gets in touch with a pretty girl. Németh is very curious to know more about her, but all he has is a couple of photos. Nevertheless, that’s not a problem — he makes a screenshot, opens up Data Lookup and uploads a photo!

As many dating app users know, some profiles there may be fake. Luckily, with help of Data Lookup , Németh finds that her profile is real and she is registered on various social networks and services. So, eventually they meet and spend a good evening at a restaurant. What a wonderful end to a hard day!

This story reveals the value of Data Lookup in your daily activities, not just inside your OSINT interests. Try it, and you won’t be disappointed — good luck!
